Questions

The Chrome Web Store version is still 3.2.2. The new toolbar, settings layout, starter packs, added sites, Support window and private menu frame described below arrive with 4.0.1, after store review.

Typing // does nothing. What should I check?
  • Click the extension's toolbar button. It tells you whether the extension is on for this tab, and offers Reload this tab or Turn on for this site when that helps.
  • Make sure you're on a supported site or a site you added, and the cursor is in the message box.
  • Refresh the tab. Tabs that were open before you installed or updated the extension need a refresh.
  • Check that the extension is turned on at chrome://extensions. After an update that adds sites, Chrome may pause it until you accept them.
  • On ChatGPT while signed in, the current store version, 3.2.2, has a known problem: the menu doesn't open. The fix arrives with 4.0.1, after store review.
I pressed Enter and my message was sent. How do I avoid that?

Use Tab to insert prompts. On many chat sites Enter sends the message straight away. Tab always inserts the prompt and leaves sending to you. On ChatGPT, Enter will insert too in 4.0.1; the store version is still 3.2.2.

How does filtering work?

After //, keep typing. The menu shows shortcuts that contain what you typed, upper or lower case: //rev finds //reviseEnglish and //codeReview.

Can I use my prompts on another computer?

Yes, with Google Drive backup: upload on one computer, then download on the other. Or use Export & import to move a file across. Chrome's own sync doesn't copy prompts between computers.

Where are the sample prompts? Can I get starter prompts later?

Starting with 4.0.1 (the store version is still 3.2.2), the extension doesn't add sample prompts on its own. After you install, a welcome page lets you pick starter packs, or start blank. Open Starter packs on the settings page to add packs any time. The five old samples are in the Everyday pack. Adding a pack never replaces a shortcut you already have, and updates no longer bring back prompts you deleted.

How do I share prompts with my team?

Click Export prompts (to file) under Import & export on the settings page and send the file. Your teammates click Import prompts (from file) to add those prompts to theirs.

Can I use it on a site that isn't listed?

With 4.0.1, yes; the store version is still 3.2.2. On that site, click the extension's toolbar button and choose Turn on for this site, or type the address under Your sites in settings. Chrome asks you to allow access to that one site. Some sites use message boxes the extension can't type into; if // does nothing there, remove the site.

Do the sites I added follow me to another computer?

Yes, from 4.0.1, if you use Google Drive backup. Your added sites are saved in the backup file with your prompts. On the other computer they show Access needed until you click Allow there.

Is it free? How can I support it?

It's free, with no ads and no paid version. If it saves you time, click Support in settings or in the toolbar popup to see our Ko-fi page, then Open Ko-fi to buy a coffee. It's entirely optional.

Does it work in other browsers or in desktop apps?

It's made for Google Chrome on the web. Some other Chromium browsers can install Chrome Web Store extensions, but Google Drive backup needs Chrome. It doesn't work inside desktop or mobile chat apps.

Is my data private?

Yes. Your prompts are stored in your browser, and we run no server and no analytics. From 4.0.1, the // menu is drawn in its own frame the chat site can't read; the store version is still 3.2.2. Google Drive backup is optional and only touches its own file. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I remove everything?

Uninstall the extension to delete your prompts from the browser. If you used Drive backup, delete ai-prompt-assistant-prompts.json from your Drive and remove the extension's access in your Google Account settings.
